ARABIA, Eastern. Oman Peninsula. Mleiha (?). Coins without patronym, mid 2nd to 1st century BCE. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.92 g, 4 h), imitating Alexander 'the Great' (336-323 BCE). Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. Male figure seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and forepart of a horse in his right; to left, palm stem; to right, uncertain Aramaic inscription; to outer right, downward-pointing anchor-like symbol (of Mleiha?). CCK 126 (this coin). Van Alfen 64a (this coin, O3/R4, but note that the obverses and reverses of 63 and 64 have been confused on pl. 31). Extremely rare. Beautifully toned and struck on an unusually broad and thin flan. The obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, good very fine.
